I actually stuck to the training programme….so far…

9 Jul

Well…this week is on track…apart from the fact I do not have a bike! My old giant is at bike hospital getting a granny gear and new chain and something else..anyway, it will be beautiful to ride, (hopefully by Saturday.) I am going to talk myself into loving bike riding.
My week thus far: Monday, a lovely 10k run. Tuesday a 30minute windtrainer session, I was meant to do 80 but was so so bored I could’ve eaten my own arm. I did hot yoga later Tuesday night, I felt like fainting, and later on felt seedy. I Woke up on Wednesday feeling like I had been out drinking (not juice) the night before. I think for my hot yoga sessions I will drink powerade or something…there’s only so much water one can drink….
Anyhoo, despite being ‘yoga hung over’ on Wednesday, I did 90 minutes on the hills of Mt.Victoria. It was meant to be 70mins but I was enjoying it so much…
Today, I did an easy 5k, and here I am! Feeling good. Feeling like I can do this marathon training thing…
I am now annoyed…( http://cenglish-memento.blogspot.com )

life happens despite my training plan…..

Last week went well, I ran 25k over the sessions from Monday to Friday. I even jumped on the windtrainer which is a biggie for me because I get really bored. And my butt really really hurts. I did it anyway. I moved my way through two sessions of hot yoga. (I heart hot yoga.) So, I thought I was on track for getting it all done…however, my weekend fell apart at the seams and I did not do Saturdays long bike/run brick..and my Sunday long run went out the window. Okay…I could have done it…but I did not. I have to be more organised, I really do. Here is why: Kids sport on Saturday had me driving around from 8.30am and I finally got home at 3. (5 different sports). Yep…I could have gone then, but Mr Drew was away doing the boat thang for the entire weekend. I don’t mind leaving my kids at home for an hour or two but there was an extra kid who also happened to stay the night and then did not go home till 5 the next day. By which time I was totally demoralised…I should make a movie…‘one woman, six kids, two days…..’. It could be a drama.
The moral of the wee story is organise myself better. I could have gone for my long run on Sunday at 5am.
Anyhoo, no use crying over spilt weekends.
Yesterday, Monday, I went for a 15k run while Paloma was at kindy. I ran through the poison of the Mt Vic tunnel and through town, around oriental bay, evans bay, cobham drive, through Mirimar onwards to strathmore, past the airport, back down cobham drive and back around evans bay, up treasure grove and viola!. My training required only a ten k, but this weeks long run is 15k. The plan is to do the 22k I missed last Sunday-this Sunday. I will make this week really tough before my easy week next week, which also happens to have the Wellington half marathon tagged on to the end. Get it?
God! I hate failing..but am trying to get a better attitude…life happens etc.
Hot yoga last night was great. I sweated so much…sounds gross..and I guess it is. We all get so slippery, our mats get slippery…we drip..some people actually gush. Sounds yummy huh?

Hot Yoga…it’s hot!

Yes..it really is. I started at a beginners course on Monday. A friend and I went from 4 degrees into a room heated to 31. Our instructor told us he was being easy on us by only keeping it at 31. I sat cross legged on my mat, waiting to start but in my head I had jumped up, ripped my clothes off and run screaming from the room. We began with a long ‘ommmmmmm’, and from there moved into positions while dripping sweat onto our mats and towels. I am now a fan and will return on Thursday to experience more new moves in 38degrees.
I am running consistantly, which is a goal of mine. I am being ‘good’ and following my programme. I completed my 20k on Sunday but walked from 18k. My mind suggested that I had run nearly 20k, and walking would be acceptable. My legs felt okay, I don’t know why I walked. Is my mind ‘the boss of me?’.
On Monday the plan was to get up at 5am which I did. The next part of the plan I did not follow because it involved getting dressed and heading out the door to run for 9k. But it was -0.6 degrees. I just could not do it. (O.M.G! My mind isthe boss of me!) So I did a meditation session (wrapped up in two blankets and fluffy dressing gown). I did a weights workout at the gym and a 45 min indoor training session on my bike with a few one leg spins. Man they are hard! Last night I went out for my 9k run, so I am on track for a 50k week.
